2001
On November 4, 2001, the Arizona Diamondbacks win their first World Series championship. Down a run to the Yankees in the ninth, the D-Backs rally against New York closer Mariano Rivera, winning on a single by Luis Gonzalez, 3-2. Pitchers Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling are named co-MVP"s.

1997
On November 4, 1997, for the first time in 33 years, a Phillie wins the NL Rookie of the Year Award. 22-year old third baseman Scott Rolen, who hit .283 with 21 homers, 92 RBI, and 93 runs scored, earns the honor, the first by a Philadelphia player since Dick Allen in 1964.

1987
On November 4, 1987, after concluding the season with a rookie-record 34-game hitting streak, San Diego Padres" catcher Benito Santiago is named National League Rookie of the Year in unanimous fashion.

1976
On November 4, 1976, Major League Baseball holds its first ever free agent re-entry draft, which is headlined by future Hall of Famers Rollie Fingers and Reggie Jackson. The 24 major league teams draft for the rights to negotiate with free agents like Jackson, Fingers, Don Baylor, Bobby Grich, and Gene Tenace.

1959
On November 4, 1959, future Hall of Famer Ernie Banks of the Chicago Cubs wins his second consecutive MVP Award. The All-Star shortstop hit 45 home runs and drove in 143 runs.
