2007
On August 4, 2007, Barry Bonds hit his 755th homer to tie Hank Aaron as the all-time leader in that category. Bonds belted his opposite-field homer off Clay Hensley of the Padres at PETCO Park in San Diego.

2007
On August 4, 2007, Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez hit his 500th homer, becoming the 22nd player to reach the milestone. At 32 years, eight days, Rodriguez is the youngest to reach the 500-mark. The homer came against Kansas City"s Kyle Davies at Yankee Stadium.

2000
On August 4, 2000, Dave Martinez becomes the ninth major leaguer to play for four teams in a season when he is traded by the Texas Rangers to the Toronto Blue Jays for a player to be named later. Earlier in the season, Martinez played for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Chicago Cubs.

1997
Brad Radke of Minnesota got his 12th straight win, pitching seven strong innings in the Twins' 9-3 victory over Toronto. Radke became only the third pitcher since 1950 to win 12 consecutive starts. 

1996
On August 4, 1996, Earl Weaver, who guided the Orioles to a World Series title in 1970, and 1,480 wins in 18 seasons, was inducted into the Hall of Fame, along with Jim Bunning, Bill Foster, and Ned Hanlon.

1985
On August 4, 1985, Tom Seaver of the Chicago White Sox wins his 300th game. Seaver defeats New York, 4-1, on "Phil Rizzuto Day" at Yankee Stadium. On the same day, Rod Carew of the California Angels enters the 3,000-hit club when he singles against his former team, the Minnesota Twins.

1983
While warming up before the fifth inning of the Yankees 3-1 win over the Blue Jays game at Toronto's Exhibition Stadium, New York outfielder Dave Winfield accidentally kills a seagull with a thrown ball. After the game, Winfield is brought to the Ontario Provincial Police station on charges of cruelty to animals and is forced to post a $500 bond before being released. The charges will be dropped the following day. 

1982
On August 4, 1982, Joel Youngblood becomes the first player to collect hits for two different teams in two cities on the same day. After driving in the winning run for the Mets in Chicago, Youngblood is traded to the Expos. He flies to Philadelphia, enters the game in the fifth, and later singles against Steve Carlton.

1980
The Seattle Mariners fire manager Darrell Johnson and replace him with Maury Wills, who becomes the third black manager in Major League history. Seattle had lost nine games in a row and 20 of 24 since the All-Star break. 

1973
On August 4, 1973, Lindy McDaniel of the New York Yankees turns in one of the best relief stints in history. After replacing Mike Kekich in the second inning, McDaniel allows only one run in 13 innings. The Yankees defeat the Detroit Tigers, 3-2.

1960
On August 4, 1960, Billy Martin of the Cincinnati Reds charges the mound and punches Chicago Cubs' pitcher Jim Brewer after nearly being hit with a pitch. Martin breaks Brewer's cheekbone, prompting a $1 million lawsuit by the Cubs.

1932
On August 4, 1932, New York Yankees catcher Bill Dickey returns to the lineup after serving a one-month suspension for breaking the jaw of Washington's Carl Reynolds. Dickey belts a grand slam and three singles in a 15-3 win.

1909
Umpire Tim Hurst instigates a riot by spitting at Athletics second baseman Eddie Collins, who had questioned a call. This incident eventually leads to Hurst's banishment from baseball two weeks later. 

1903
Nap Lajoie is so furious that umpire Tommy Connolly has put an old black ball into play that he hurls the ball over the grandstand. His act results in Cleveland forfeiting the game to Detroit.
