2007
On May 27, 2007, the St. Louis Cardinals option pitcher Anthony Reyes to their Triple-A team in Memphis. Reyes is 0-8 with a 6.08 ERA in his first nine starts of the season. The second year pitcher"s last victory came in Game One of the 2006 World Series against Detroit.

2006
On May 27, 2006, Anaheim right-hander Jared Weaver makes his major league debut and pitches seven shutout innings against the Orioles to win. Days earlier, Weaver had been called up from the minor leagues to take the spot ofhis older brother, Jeff, who was waived.

1981
On May 27, 1981, Lenny Randle of the Seattle Mariners tries to blow a ground ball into foul territory. After initially calling the ball foul, home plate umpire Larry McCoy reverses his call and awards Amos Otis of the Kansas City Royals with a controversial infield single.

1968
On May 27, 1968, two future major league stars are born in different cities. Jeff Bagwell is born in Boston, Massachusetts, while Frank Thomas enters the world in Columbus, Georgia. Thomas will make his major league debut in 1990, and Bagwell will follow suit in 1991…

1960
On May 27, 1960, Clint Courtney of the Baltimore Orioles uses an oversized catcher's mitt in an effort to handle the pitches of knuckleballer Hoyt Wilhelm. The mitt, designed by Baltimore manager Paul Richards, is 50-percent larger than the standard mitt used by catchers. Courtney handles Wilhelm's pitches flawlessly in a 3-2 win. The oversized mitt will later be banned.

1959
On May 27, 1959, National League President Warren Giles rules that the final score of the near perfect game thrown by the Pittsburgh Pirates' Harvey Haddix should be 1-0, and not 3-0. Giles says that when Joe Adcock passed Hank Aaron on the bases after hitting a home run, both runners should have been called out, thereby nullifying the second and third runs.

1937
On May 27, 1937, Carl Hubbell earns his 24th consecutive victory as the New York Giants defeat the Cincinnati Reds, 3-2. Hubbell wins the game in relief when Mel Ott belts a ninth-inning home run.

1928
On May 27, 1928, the Boston Braves purchase George Sisler from the Washington Senators. The Hall of Famer will hit .340 for the Braves in 491 at-bats.
