2006
On November 21, 2006, Justin Morneau becomes the fourth Minnesota Twins to win the American League Most Valuable Player Award. The slugging first baseman defeats Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter by 14 votes.

1980
On November 21, 1980, the New York Yankees fire manager Dick Howser, who led the club to a regular season record of 103 wins and 59 losses. Howser takes the fall for the Yankees' disappointing performance in the playoffs-a three-game sweep at the hands of the Kansas City Royals.

1972
On November 21, 1972, Boston Red Sox catcher Carlton Fisk becomes the first American Leaguer to win unanimous selection as Rookie of the Year. Fisk batted .293 with 22 home runs and 61 RBIs for Boston.

1958
On November 21, 1958, Hall of Famer Mel Ott dies at the age of 49 from injuries sustained in a traffic accident. Ott batted .304 with 511 home runs over a 22-year career with the New York Giants.

1934
On November 21, 1934, the New York Yankees purchase Joe DiMaggio from the San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League for between $25,000 and $50,000. Although the 19-year-old outfielder has a torn tendon in his knee, he will become one of the game's all-time greats.

1933
On November 21, 1933, the Philadelphia Phillies trade Triple Crown winner Chuck Klein to the Chicago Cubs for infielder Mark Koenig, outfielder Harvey Hendrick, and pitcher Ted Kleinhans, plus $65,000. Klein, who batted .368 with 28 home runs and 120 RBIs, becomes the only player to be traded immediately after winning the Triple Crown.

1920
On November 21, 1920, future Hall of Famer Stan Musial is born in Donora, Pennsylvania. Musial will make his major league debut 21 years later. Ironically, another standout player - Ken Griffey, Jr.- will be born in Donora exactly 49 years to the day after Musial's birth.
