2004
On October 20, 2004, the Red Sox complete an improbable and historic comeback by defeating New York in Yankee Stadium, 10-3 in Game Seven of the ALCS. The Red Sox win the final four games of the series to become the first team to ever rebound from a 3-0 deficit. Johnny Damon hits two homers, including a grand slam, and David Ortiz hits a two-run homer in the first inning for the Sox. It"s the second straight season that the Red Sox and Yankees battle to a seventh game in the ALCS.

2004
On October 20, 2004, Jim Edmonds hits a two-run walk-off homer in the 12th inning to give the Cardinals a 6-4 victory over the Astros in Game Six of the NLCS.

1990
On October 20, 1990, the Cincinnati Reds complete a stunning four-game sweep of the heavily-favored Oakland A's. Jose Rijo retires the last 20 batters he faces to finish off a 2-1 victory. Rijo is named World Series MVP.

1988
On October 20, 1988, the Los Angeles Dodgers complete one of the greatest upsets in World Series history. With Orel Hershiser on the mound, the Dodgers defeat the Oakland A's, 5-2, to win the Series. Hershiser, who won two games for LA, is named Series MVP.

1964
On October 20, 1964, the New York Yankees make a much-rumored change when they announce the hiring of Johnny Keane as their new manager. Keane had announced his resignation from the St. Louis Cardinals only one day after the Redbirds had defeated the Yankees in the World Series.

1960
On October 20, 1960, the New York Yankees name former catcher Ralph Houk as their new manager, replacing the exiled Casey Stengel. The Yankees had imposed retirement on Casey two days earlier, although Stengel claimed the Yankees had fired him.

1937
On October 20, 1937, future Hall of Famer Juan Marichal is born in Laguna Verde of the Dominican Republic. Marichal will make his debut with the San Francisco Giants in 1960 and will become one of the winningest Latin American pitchers in major league history…

On October 20, 1931, future Hall of Fame outfielder Mickey Mantle is born in Spavinaw, Oklahoma. Mantle is named after another Hall of Famer-Philadelphia A's catcher Mickey Cochrane. Mantle will make his major league debut in 1951…
