1992
On September 20, 1992, Mickey Morandini of the Philadelphia Phillies executes a defensive rarity-the unassisted triple play. Morandini becomes the first National League player to complete an unassisted triple killing in 65 years. In spite of Morandini's play, the Phillies lose to the Pittsburgh Pirates, 3-2, in 13 innings.

1988
On September 20, 1988, Wade Boggs of the Boston Red Sox becomes the first player of the modern era to reach 200 hits in six consecutive seasons. Boggs also joins Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig as the only players to pile up 100 walks and 200 hits in three straight seasons…

1971
On September 20, 1971, the American League approves the transfer of the Washington Senators to Texas. AL owners vote, 10-2, in favor of the move, which ends 71 years of baseball in the capital city and will result in the birth of the Texas Rangers…

1970
On September 20, 1970, Bob Moose of the Pittsburgh Pirates pitches a 4-0 no-hitter against the New York Mets. The no-hitter by the 22-year-old right-hander is the fifth thrown by a National League pitcher on the season.

On September 20, 1968, future Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle of the New York Yankees hits the final home run of his major league career. Mantle connects against Jim Lonborg of the Boston Red Sox to finish with 536 home runs…

On September 20, 1961, Roger Maris clubs his 59th home run in the 155th game of the season. Commissioner Ford Frick had previously ruled that Maris needed to hit his 61st home run by this game to officially break Babe Ruth's single season record…

1958
On September 20, 1958, Baltimore Orioles right-hander Hoyt Wilhelm, sporting a 2-10 record, no-hits the New York Yankees. Wilhelm's 1-0 win is his first career complete game. Used almost exclusively as a reliever in the past, Wilhelm joined the Orioles on waivers in August.

1924
On September 20, 1924, future Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander of the Chicago Cubs wins his 300th career game. Alexander defeats the New York Giants, 7-3, in 12 innings to become the fourth pitcher of the modern era to reach the milestone.
