2008



On June 27, 2008, Carlos Delgado of the Mets sets a franchise record with nine RBI"s in a 15-6 rout of the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Delgado is 3-for-5 with two homers and a double. The outburst occurs in the first game of a doubleheader split between Yankee Stadium and She Stadium.

1989
On June 27, 1989, African-American managers oppose each other for the first time in major league history. Frank Robinson and the Baltimore Orioles defeat Cito Gaston's Toronto Blue Jays, 16-6, at Baltimore's Memorial Stadium…

1986
On June 27, 1986, Robby Thompson of the San Francisco Giants sets a major league record when he is caught stealing four times. Cincinnati Reds catcher Bo Diaz nails the Giants' rookie each time, but San Francisco still manages to win the game, 7-6, in 12 innings.

1985



On June 27, 1985, Jeffrey Leonard of the San Francisco Giants hits for the cycle in a 7-6 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. Nicknamed "Hac Man" for his aggressive style of hitting, Leonard becomes the first Giant to hit for the cycle since Dave Kingman in 1972.

1980
On June 27, 1980, Jerry Reuss of the Los Angeles Dodgers pitches a no-hitter against the rival San Francisco Giants. Reuss, who wins an 8-0 decision, narrowly misses a perfect game when shortstop Bill Russell commits a throwing error on Jack Clark's routine grounder in the first inning.

1977



On June 27, 1977, Willie McCovey of the San Francisco Giants hits two home runs in one inning and becomes the all-time National League leader with 17 career grand slams. McCovey's homers help the Giants defeat the Cincinnati Reds, 14-9.

1973
On June 27, 1973, 18-year-old David Clyde, who had been drafted first overall earlier in the month, makes his debut with the Texas Rangers. The Houston high school star draws a record crowd to Arlington Stadium. Clyde allows two runs in five innings and earns the win, but will struggle to a career record of 18-33.

1955
On June 27, 1955, budding Boston Red Sox star Harry Agganis dies unexpectedly from a blood clot after a bout with pneumonia. The 25-year-old Agganis had led all American League first basemen in assists in 1954 and was hitting .313 at the time of his death.

1938



On June 27, 1938, future Hall of Fame slugger Jimmie Foxx belts the 400th homer of his career, joining an exclusive list that at that time includes only Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.

1930
On June 27, 1930, 46-year-old Philadelphia Athletics pitcher John Quinn becomes the oldest player to hit a home run in major league history. Quinn, who connects against the St. Louis Browns, also picks up the victory-one of nine wins for him in 1930.

1917
On June 27, 1917, Boston Braves catcher Hank Gowdy becomes the first major leaguer to enlist in the military during World War I. Gowdy will also serve in World War II, making him the only major leaguer to serve in both wars.
