2007
On June 24, 2007, the Cubs defeated the White Sox, 3-0, to sweep their cross-town rivals for the first time in the South Side. The victory brought the interleague record between the two Windy City teams to 30 wins for the White Sox, and 30 for the Cubs.

1991



On June 24, 1991, Dave Winfield of the California Angels becomes the oldest player to collect five hits in a single game. The 39-year-old Winfield also hits for the cycle in a 9-4 thrashing of the Kansas City Royals.

1989



On June 24, 1989, Vince Coleman of the St. Louis Cardinals sets a major league record by stealing his 39th and 40th consecutive bases without being caught. Coleman, who has not been caught since September 15 of 1988, breaks the record set by Davey Lopes in 1975…

1984



On June 24, 1984, Joe Morgan of the Oakland A's breaks Rogers Hornsby's record by hitting his 265th home run as a second baseman. Morgan, playing his final major league season, will finish his career with 268 home runs…

1983
On June 24, 1983, future Hall of Famer Don Sutton becomes the eighth pitcher to record his 3,000th strikeout. Sutton fans Alan Bannister in the eighth inning of a 6-2 win for the Milwaukee Brewers…

On June 24, 1979, future star Rickey Henderson makes his major league debut for the Oakland A's. Henderson, who will become the game's all-time leader in stolen bases and walks, picks up a single, a double, and his first stolen base in four at-bats against the Texas Rangers…

1972
On June 24, 1972, Bernice Gera becomes the first woman to umpire in a professional game. Gera works the first game of a New York-Pennsylvania League doubleheader between the Auburn Phillies and Geneva Rangers. Gera encounters a series of disputes in the game and will never umpire again…

1970



On June 24, 1970, New York Yankees outfielder Bobby Murcer ties a major league record by hitting home runs in four straight at-bats of a doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians. During the doubleheader, Tony Horton of the Indians actually crawls back to the dugout after striking out on Steve Hamilton's "Folly Floater."

1964
On June 24, 1964, collegiate star Rick Reichardt becomes the biggest "bonus baby" in major league history when he signs a contract with the Los Angeles Angels. Reichardt, whose bonus totals $200,000, will make his major league debut later in the season, batting .162 in 37 at-bats.

1949



On June 24, 1949, future Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle signs his first contract - a $1,000 deal with the New York Yankees. Yankee scout Tom Greenwade reels in the 17-year-old high school star, who will make his major league debut two years later.

1941
On June 24, 1941 at Yankee Stadium, after going hitless in his first three at-bats, Joe DiMaggio singles in the eighth inning to extend his hitting streak to 36 games.
