2007




On May 24, 2007, leadoff man Ichiro Suzuki goes 3-for-6 in the Seattle Mariners 13-12 loss to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, giving him 1,414 hits in his first 1,000 major league games. Only Al Simmons (with 1,433) collected more hits in his first 1,000 contests. 

1995
On May 24, 1995, the Chicago White Sox and Texas Rangers play the longest doubleheader by time in major league history. The teams split the twinbill, which lasts seven hours and 39 minutes. By the end of the second game, only a few hundred fans remain at Comiskey Park.

1984




On May 24, 1984, the Detroit Tigers win their major league record 17th consecutive game on the road, defeating the Angels, 5-1 behind Jack Morris, who improves to 9-1. The victory runs Detroit"s record to 35-5, the best 40-game start in baseball history.

1972
On May 24, 1972, California Angels pitcher Don Rose homers in his first major league at-bat. Rose connects against Oakland A's left-hander Vida Blue, giving himself and the Angels a dramatic 6-5 win. Rose will never win another game or hit another home run in the major leagues.

1967
On May 24, 1967, Tom McCraw of the Chicago White Sox launches three home runs and drives in eight runs in a 14-1 win over the Minnesota Twins. McCraw, not known for his power, will finish the season with only 11 home runs - a career high.

On May 24, 1935, the first night game in major league history is played at Crosley Field in Cincinnati. When President Franklin Delano Roosevelt pushes a button in the White House, the ballpark is illuminated. After a festive pre-game ceremony, the Reds defeat the Philadelphia Phillies, 2-1.
